ANNA RUBIN’s music engages audiences with dramatic intensity and lyrical beauty. Her love of story-telling infuses the many works in which she focuses on environmental and social justice concerns. Whether she is composing for acoustic instruments or for electronic and computer-generated media, her work celebrates the varied strands of her musical DNA, ranging from the Jewish cantorial legacy to Renaissance, classical and experimental traditions.
Rubin’s bee pieces have found an enthusiastic audience. Concerned with the crisis facing bee populations, she researched their biology and culture, composing three different works. Rubin’s fascination with astrophysics has culminated in a work celebrating black holes. And her concern with migrant justice led her to compose a major work celebrating the stories of migrant women.
